Poor sad Blueberry has an extra heavy cloud hanging over her head this morning… She knows we’re leaving her alone with her “new family” (Riley and Erin) for a week.

We bought this sketch book for Riley this summer after she filled her first.

This one, just a fraction of the way in, contains 24 characters that she has not only sketched, but created extensive backgrounds, detailed features, special powers, and connections to other characters within that ‘group’ or fandom (she has add-ons to X-men, Harry Potter, Doctor Who). She then generally writes a story/fan-fiction (ranging from 5 to 20+ pages (maybe more, every time I ask the number grows)) about these characters.

We have watched both her writing and drawing skills increase exponentially throughout the summer. Every summer this sort of thing happens and every school year at least one teacher beats all of the creativity out of her.

L and I have tried to talk Riley into letting us homeschool her for the humanities portion of school but she [likes her classmates and] wants to give it a try (props to her, I guess) I swear to sweet baby Jesus the day we see her creativity fade, will be her last day in her humanities classes.

That is all.

This kid loves going outside. She will bring me (matching) pairs of shoes until I get the hint.

Yep, we’re keeping her.

Sure do!

Anonymous said: Thank you! It helps knowing that prefolds are still used. They're what I used as a nanny and I was comfortable with them but every CDing parent seems to loooOOOoove BG/AIO and aside from a few for convenience, I don't plan on buying many.

👍

Anonymous said: Can you list your CD stash? Which types do you use, which do you use often, when do you use certain ones, which are the better investment in your mind, which are easiest, which work the best etc? You seem like an awesome person to ask

Excluding what we just purchased, we have been using:

Prefolds:
15 Green Mountain Diapers (Cloth-eez)
4 Osocozy

Covers:
4 Rumparooz
2 Diaper Safari flip style
1 Thirsties
1 Gen-Y
1 Blueberry

All-in-one:
7 Bum Genius freetimes
1 Blueberry simplex

We use the prefolds and covers during the day (we like these the best). I like to use the Osocozy folded in thirds and slipped into the Diaper safari covers when we’re out because it’s easier than messing with a snappy… Otherwise, GMD with snappy and cover is our fave.
Osocozy are smaller and thinner than GMD.

We use all-in-ones for night because they’re just one diaper and if Zoe needs a change in the middle of the night, it’s quick and easy. There was a time where she was soaking through any/everything (from hemp fitted+extra inserts+wool cover to disposables) and couldn’t go through the night without a change. I think I like the simplex a tad better than the Bum Genius but I wouldn’t really suggest spending the extra money.

With the above listed, we do diaper laundry every 2-3 days.

There are so so many factors that take part in determining the best cloth diaper (for you and your baby)- I think the best advice I can give is procure a few different kinds (used if you can) and see what works best for you! We tried “china cheepies” Alva pockets, didn’t like ‘em, solid ‘em, and only lost ~$40 (which is roughly the cost of a pack of disposables)- we figured if we “throw away” a little money here and there trying things out, it’s better than throwing away trash bags full of diapers!

Hope this helps, at least kinda sorta.

I’d be willing to bet our Friday night excitement far exceeds your Friday night excitement.

New (used) diapers = stash (less what baby’s wearing) strip & bleach soak.
